How often should my pet be groomed?

A grooming schedule can vary greatly depending on your pet’s breed, coat type, lifestyle, home maintenance, behaviour, and the style outcome you are hoping to achieve. While some pets can comfortably maintain a shorter practical clip on a longer schedule, others (particularly full-coated, fluffy, curly, or high-maintenance coats) often require far more regular grooming to keep them comfortable, hygienic, and free from matting.

Regular professional grooming is not just about appearance. It plays an important role in coat and skin health, comfort, hygiene, behaviour, and helping pets remain well-adjusted to the grooming process throughout their life. Below is our general grooming frequency guide to help explain the difference between an ideal schedule, a manageable maintenance schedule, and the maximum timeframe we would recommend between appointments.

RECOMMENDED GROOMING FREQUENCY GUIDE

Every pet is different, and grooming frequency can vary depending on coat type, lifestyle, home maintenance, behaviour, and desired style outcome. These recommendations are a general guide only.

❗NO MORE THAN	Going beyond this timeframe increases the risk of matting, discomfort, coat/skin issues, hygiene concerns, behavioural difficulties with grooming, and may limit styling options and incur extra fees.

We generally recommend that all cats receive professional grooming on the following schedule to maintain coat condition, comfort, hygiene, and tolerance for grooming.

Full coated cats that are just getting a Bath, Dry, Brushout and Deshed and/or Hygiene trim, should aim for this schedule. However, this schedule does not mean a major haircut (such as a Lion Cut or Comb Cut) at every appointment! Many cats benefit from alternating between these larger haircut appointments and lighter maintenance sessions.

Cat Coat Type Considerations

Some coat types require more frequent maintenance than others. Cats with dilute colouring genetics — such as Blue, Lilac, Cream, and Fawn — often have softer, denser, or more fibrous coat textures that can mat more easily. These cats commonly benefit from more frequent grooming compared to cats with dominant coat colours such as Black, Red (Orange), or Chocolate.
